For many, the fact that Microsoft are ceasing support of Windows XP will have little or no impact initially. However over time, new functionality and updates which often take place in the background, and go unnoticed to the untrained eye, will start to take effect.
One of the largest considerations for businesses is that all new hardware purchased such as PCs or laptops will be running either Windows 7 or 8. Very quickly businesses will arrive at a situation where hardware such as printers, scanners and copiers will require new software drivers compatible with Windows 7 or 8 to work correctly. In most cases this will not cause a problem, however there is a possibility that for older hardware, such as Dot Matrix printers, the software drivers required to run on Windows 7 or 8 will not be available, and therefore would be incompatible with the Windows 7 or 8 platforms.
Dot Matrix printing
The end of Windows XP could cause an issue for Evolution customers using Dot Matrix printers, as it is unlikely that the required drivers will be available for hardware running Windows 7 or 8. If you use Dot Matrix printers in your business and would like to discuss the implications of moving away from your current printing methods please do not hesitate to contact our Support team.
